Escape to Ilha Grande
4-Day Ilha Grande Beach Break - Brazil
Overview
Once home to pirates and some of Brazil's most notorious prisoners, Ilha Grande has moved away from its chequered past and is now an oasis of tropical calm. Still relatively undeveloped and with only a few small settlements, here you'll find long sandy beaches flanked by lush forest, and virtually no cars on the sandy roads. This is Brazilian island life at it's finest.

Your day-by-day itinerary
Rio de Janeiro – Ilha Grande
You’ll be picked up from Rio and driven for a couple of hours along the Costa Verde coastline, until you reach the port at Angra dos Reis. Here you can purchase a ferry ticket for just a couple of pounds, and set off on the picturesque 2hr ferry crossing to Ilha Grande. Arriving in the main town, you’ll make your own way to your comfortable pousada a short walk away, and soon find yourself settling into the pace of island life.

Explore and Relax
On your second day we’ve arranged tickets for a boat which will take you to another side of the island, dropping you off just a short walk away from one of Brazil’s best beaches – Lopes Mendes. You’ll have the day here to relax on the powdery sand and swim in the clear blue water, before heading back to town in the afternoon.

The rest of your time on the island is left for you to do as much or as little as you choose as you choose. You could be exploring one of the many forest trails running through the island, eating delicious seafood dinners on the beach, snorkeling in the clear waters, or doing precisely nothing with a caipirinha in hand.

Departure time
At the end of your stay you’ll reluctantly return to the mainland, ready to continue your journey to your next destination.
