Visiting Tanzania in October
Weather and climate
Tanzania in October
The last month of the dry season, you’ll find the rains creeping in towards the end of the month, but otherwise it’s a fantastic time to explore the whole of Tanzania. Temperatures are getting warmer again, although it’s still cool at altitude and overnight, and any downpours are usually limited to an afternoon storm.
While the herds have crossed into Kenya during their annual Great Migration, you’ll still be able to see wildlife across the country with fewer crowds than during the peak summer months, making it the best time to go to Tanzania if you’re looking for a quieter experience. The long dry months mean more animals will congregate around water sources so it’s easier to spot them, and it’s a particularly good time to visit the southern parks and central Serengeti.
The start of the month is a great time to explore Kilimanjaro, after the crowds have left and before the wet weather begins, whether you’re planning a climb or exploring the foothills on a trek or by bike. Temperatures rise to around 30C in Zanzibar, but you’ll still have clear conditions for snorkelling and diving at the beginning of October, as well as for lounging on the beach.
