Tanzania in June

As the rainy months finally end, it’s a great time to visit Tanzania. The migrating herds are in the Grumeti region, making their way further north towards the Mara River. Although they don’t usually reach the border before July, you can see them crossing the narrower Grumeti River, with its Nile crocodiles.

While it’s still the green season, it becomes easier to spot the animals as water sources dry up throughout the month, as well as observing mating season for the wildebeest. Rainfall is minimal across the national parks and at Mount Kilimanjaro, although this cooler period sees temperatures struggle to rise above zero as you climb to the peak. It’s a fantastic time to explore the foothills, such as a Kilimanjaro cycling break, or discovering village life and the coffee plantations of Moshi.

Daytime temperatures are pleasant, at around 25C in the Serengeti this month, although mornings and evenings will be cooler across Tanzania in June, especially if you’re heading to areas of higher altitude, or for early morning game drives.
