Tanzania in January

The middle of Tanzania’s green season, this is a fantastic month for bird-watching as well as spotting the country’s wildlife. The weather is warmer than the main dry season, with temperatures in the high 20s, and generally dry although with higher humidity and some rain.

Calving season is at its height from late January, with around 8,000 calves born each day; Tanzania in January is the time for marvelling at all the baby animals, but also catching some of the resulting predator action. The Ndutu Plains and the southeast Serengeti are ideal this month.

It’s also one of the best times to go to Tanzania for birders as more migratory species arrive in Tanzania this month, alongside endemic birds living in a range of habitats including Arusha National park, the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater and Kilimanjaro.
