Chill Out on Caye Caulker – Belize
Bite-sized trip
Day 1 – Over to the island
Whether you’ve stayed overnight or just travelled to Belize City today, you’ll head to the main ferry port to catch one of the regular departures over to the island. It’s around 45 minutes across the bright blue sea (costing around £10) until the swaying palms of Caye Caulker come into view. Your hotel is typical of the island – simple, comfortable and friendly, with air-con and a little balcony outside each room.
If you’d like a little more luxury then we do have an upgrade option we can book for you too.
Days 2-3 – Snorkelling and relaxing
After breakfast this morning you’ll meet your captain and hop onto his boat with some other travellers to head out to the reef. Snorkels are provided, and the underwater world is full of colour, with bright fish, rays and small nurse sharks darting around the coral. If dolphins pass by then you might even get the chance to jump into the water with them. A fresh lunch is served on-board before you head back to dry land in the afternoon.
The rest of your time on the island is free. Rent bikes or kayaks to explore the quiet beaches along the coast, swim in the warm Caribbean Sea or just spend your time eating fresh lobster in one of the many local restaurants. Life here moves at a snail’s pace, and that’s what makes it so easy to stay. The nightlife here can also be a lot of fun, if you’re in that kind of mood!
P.S. If you’re a keen diver then lots of trips can be booked locally, including the world-famous Blue Hole advanced dive.
Day 4 – Time to leave (maybe…)
We can easily book a few more days here for you if you’d like, otherwise it’s time to continue your journey. You might head back to the mainland, or maybe carry on by boat on our Sailing the Cayes trip.
