Time for Tea

Bite-sized trip

    • Itinerary:
      Cameron Highlands
    • Duration:
      3 days / 2 nights (flexible)
    • Price:
From £ 189.- per person (excluding flights)
The Cameron Highlands is a scenic region of rolling hills and green tea terraces sitting between 1,100 and 1,600 metres above sea level. The cooler climate drew British settlers here, and today it provides a refreshing break from Malaysia's busy cities. You'll spend two nights in the hills enjoying scenic views from your hotel and learning more about the humble cup of tea.

It’s a popular region (especially during weekends), but once you step away from the main towns you’ll find quieter corners where you can soak up the fresh air and enjoy being surrounded by nature.

Day 1 – Arrival in Cameron Highlands

The Cameron Highlands is a scenic region of rolling hills and green tea terraces sitting between 1,100 and 1,600 metres above sea level. From Kuala Lumpur it’s around a four-hour drive, or about five hours if you’re coming from Taman Negara. As you get closer, the road becomes steeper and more winding, with plenty of bends and views across the hills.

The climate here is pleasantly cool, which explains why several British settlers made this area their home, and a few colonial-style bungalows remain tucked into the hills. The cooler climate also makes it ideal for growing fruit, vegetables and flowers, and you’ll find large areas dedicated to farms and greenhouses.

Your hotel enjoys views of the surrounding tea plantations and rolling hills. The rooms are comfortable and spacious, and there’s an indoor pool.

Day 2 – Tea plantation tour

The Cameron Highlands are known for their sweeping tea plantations, and today you’ll see how those leaves make their way from bush to cup. With an English-speaking guide and a small group, you’ll set off in the morning for a mix of viewpoints and gentle walks. You’ll take in the views across the tea fields, then step into the Mossy Forest to spot unusual plants and flowers. The morning wraps up with a visit to a local tea estate for a short tour, and your afternoon is free to spend your own way.

Day 3 – Departure from the Cameron Highlands

After breakfast, you’ll follow the winding roads out of the Highlands down to warmer climes where you’ll need to get used to the hot, humid weather again.
