Days 1-3 – Revelling in Rio
Rio offers sweeping beaches, great food and a lively atmosphere. When you arrive you will be met by a guide who will take you through your itinerary and answer any questions. It’s about an hour transfer to your comfortable hotel right next to Copacabana beach, the perfect place for a stroll to watch the sunset behind the mountains. You’ll also spend a morning with a private guide and driver, so you can tick off some of those iconic sights.
Days 3-5 – Catch your breath at Devil’s Throat
This morning, you will be collected and taken back to Rio airport to catch your flight on to your next destination, Foz Do Iguazu. Flying time today will be just over 2 hours. Your domestic flights will be booked as part of your international ticket by your Travel Specialist to fit perfectly with this itinerary.
The next few days are all about experiencing South America’s most spectacular waterfalls. You’ll stay in a modern resort hotel with swimming pool, restaurant and bar. The next day you’ll visit the Brazilian side of the falls with a private English-speaking guide, allowing you to ask questions along the way and experience the falls in your own time.
In the afternoon you’ll visit the Argentinean side of the falls. You can take many different walking trails around the smaller waterfalls before heading to the Devil’s Throat. Here you can watch the river transform into a powerful thundering waterfall, plunging down into the depths below… it will take your breath away!
Days 5-9 – Perfectly Paraty
On day five you’ll be transferred to the airport to catch your flight from Foz to the metropolitan city of Sao Paulo. The general flying time today is just under 2 hours. When you arrive at the airport in Sao Paulo our local representative will collect you and take you to your hotel, it’s about an hour drive.
Get a taste of colonial Brazil in picturesque Paraty – a beautifully preserved town surrounded by hills, forests and hundreds of beaches ready to be explored. Spend your evenings strolling around its cobbled pedestrianised streets looking for great restaurants and artisan shops, and your days exploring the pristine bay or heading into the neighbouring Atlantic Forest.
Days 9-12 – Escape to Ilha Grande
On day twelve you’ll be collected from your pousada and transferred to the ferry port at Angra dos Reis, around 2 hours away. You’ll buy your ticket on the spot and jump aboard the boat to cruise over to Ilha Grande, around 1.5 hours away.
Situated a couple of hours off the coast by ferry, and not too far from Rio, your next stop is Ilha Grande. This car-free, stress-free island used to be home to pirates and prisoners, but is now an oasis of tropical calm. With only a few small settlements, a dusty main town and a super-relaxed atmosphere, this is a place to settle into Brazilian island life. During your time here we’ll arrange a boat ticket so you can spend the day on one of Brazil’s top beaches, and the rest of the time is yours to explore the island, or just kick back with a caipirinha in hand.
Today you will make your own way back to the mainland by boat. On arrival at Angra dos Reis a minibus driver will be waiting to take you along the coast road to Rio.
