Day 1 -Arrival in Sidemen
Welcome to the idyllic village of Sidemen, nestled between rolling hills and mountains with a wonderfully authentic feel, pleasant temperatures and crisp, clean air. You’ll stay overnight in a charming Balinese-style, family-run hotel just outside the small village centre, offering peace and quiet, with just a handful of rooms and a lovely pool. On arrival, take a refreshing dip, settle in and soak up the relaxed atmosphere and sweeping views across the lush green landscape before enjoying a slow, easy afternoon with the family ahead of your trek to Mount Batur the next day.
Day 2 – Hiking Mount Batur Volcano
Many travellers choose to trek Mount Agung from Sidemen, usually setting off around 01:30 to catch sunrise at the summit. It’s a challenging full-day hike, with both ascent and descent taking up to nine hours. As this can be quite demanding, we can alternatively arrange a family-friendly trek on Mount Batur for you and your children. Around midday, you’ll be picked up from your accommodation and driven to Kintamani in around an hour and a half, a beautiful area on the slopes of Mount Batur. Here, you’ll enjoy a relaxed buffet lunch with spectacular views over the volcanic landscape including Mount Batur, Mount Abang and weather permitting, Mount Agung in the distance.

Once you’ve had time to refuel, the adventure begins with a short drive before setting off on your trek, so do bring plenty of water, sun protection and a hat as much of the route is across open terrain where the sun can be quite strong. The trail leads through dramatic black lava fields, with large volcanic rocks, dark sand and ash underfoot, and after around an hour and a half of steady climbing you’ll reach the summit. From here, the views are truly spectacular – take a moment to sit back, enjoy the peace and watch the sun set over the mountains while your guides prepare simple snacks such as eggs and bananas cooked using the natural heat of the volcano, along with tea and refreshments. As the light fades, you’ll begin your descent, often a highlight for children, and afterwards you’ll be transferred back to your hotel in Sidemen.
Day 3 – Departure from Sideman
Yesterday was quite an active day and you arrived back at your hotel in Sidemen a little later so you can enjoy a bit of a lie-in this morning if you wish. After a good breakfast to set you up for the day your journey through Bali continues. As you travel on take in the beautiful views of the lush green rice fields one last time along the way.
