Day 1 – Arrival in Tetebatu
Today you’ll arrive in the quiet village of Tetebatu, nestled among Lombok’s green hinterland, where life centres around rice fields and small local communities. It’s a place where you can slow down, with lush rolling hills, walking trails and beautiful views over the surrounding terraces. You won’t find large resorts here, as its less developed than other parts of Indonesia, which is all part of its charm. You’ll stay in a small, family-run guesthouse, where your family will be warmly welcomed and get an insight into everyday village life. Enjoy views over the lush rice fields from your room, with Mount Rinjani rising in the distance. As the accommodation here is more basic, many of the guesthouses do not have facilities like a swimming pool, but this is all part what makes a stay in Tetebatu feel so authentic and unspoilt.
Day 2 – Exploring the Monkey Forest
This morning, you’ll be exploring Tetebatu with a local guide, giving you a closer look at daily life in this rural part of Lombok. You’ll start at a traditional market, where locals come to buy and sell fresh produce and regional specialities. From here, you’ll continue onto nearby monkey forest, where you might spot black monkeys moving through the trees. At the edge of the forest, you’ll hop on bikes for a gentle downhill ride back towards the village, passing rice terraces and quiet countryside, before arriving at a small waterfall. If you’re up for it, you can take the steps down for a refreshing dip in the pool below, before continuing on. The day ends with a well-earned lunch at a local restaurant.
The bike tour is suitable for children aged 12+ (or >150cm) as there are no children’s bikes or seats available. If you’re travelling with younger children, we can arrange a hiking experience that will suit your family better. See the bottom of this page for more information.

Day 3 – Departure from Tetebatu
After breakfast, you’ll continue onto your next destination in Indonesia. For more adventurous experiences, you can head to north Lombok and explore the cascading waterfalls, or if you prefer the ocean then you can ride the waves in the south or relax on palm beaches in Senggigi.
Accommodation

For this bite-sized trip we offer the following options
Hike to the Monkey Forest of Tetebatu (no cycling)
If your children are a little too young for the bike ride, we can arrange a relaxed walk of around two hours with a local guide, offering a gentle introduction to life in Tetebatu. Starting from your guesthouse, you’ll wander through Sasak villages and along paths that wind past rice and tobacco fields, with plenty to spot along the way.
In the nearby monkey forest, you may see grey macaques and the more shy black long-tailed monkeys, moving quietly through the trees. It feels far removed from busier parks, with a more natural, unspoilt setting.
After a morning outdoors, you’ll sit down together for a well-earned lunch at a local restaurant. This experience is enjoyed at any pace and suitable for children of all ages.
