Day 1 – Welcome to village life

Today you’ll arrive at a traditional Balinese house, where you’ll be welcomed straight into family life. For the next 24 hours, your family will be part of village life in a quiet region in southern Bali. You’ll sleep in a comfortable room with your own bathroom, looking out over a lush green garden and the family temple.

This afternoon, you’ll learn all about Balinese traditions in a relaxed, hands-on way, from making a small offering basket used daily at home and temples, to seeing how people write on lontar (traditional palm leaves). You’ll also see how coconuts are turned into oil, before taking a short walk through the gardens filled with tropical plants and herbs.

In the evening, you’ll sit down together to share a traditional Balinese dinner made with local ingredients, as the sun sets over the village. Your hosts will share stories about life in the kampung, the traditions of the island and daily life in the village. It’s a simple, relaxed evening, where your family will be welcomed as guests and get an authentic glimpse into Balinese hospitality and culture.

    Day 2 – Cooking workshop & departure

This morning, you’ll rise early with the locals and head out to the market. Wandering past colourful stalls piled high with fresh vegetables, fragrant herbs and spices, you’ll select the ingredients for today’s lunch. Back at the village, a Balinese breakfast will be prepared for you, with fresh fruit and coffee or tea. Then, it’s time to roll up your sleeves, as you’ll be joining a cooking workshop to learn how to prepare a variety of traditional dishes from fiery sambals to fragrant curries, before enjoying the fruits of your labour and tasting your own creations for lunch. With full stomachs and a head full of new experiences, it’s time to say goodbye to your host family and continue on your journey in Bali.
