Edge of the Amazon
Bite-sized tripDay 1 – Into the jungle
You’ll arrive in the relaxed jungle town of Tena and head to a nearby pier where a boat will be waiting for you. From here it’s a gentle journey downriver to your eco-lodge, set on the banks of the Napo River and surrounded by the forest. There’s limited electricity here so it’s a very off-grid experience, but you’ll have a comfortable room with a private porch and bathroom. The rest of the day is free to relax and get used to the jungle heat.
Day 2 – Exploring on foot
After breakfast, one of the lodge’s native guides will take you into the jungle on foot. The wildlife in this part of the Amazon tends to be smaller creatures, with plenty of colourful species of birds, frogs and insects, as well as monkeys and the occasional coati, anteater, wild cat or caiman. After an hour or so you’ll reach a hidden waterfall where you can cool off before heading back for lunch.
Activities vary depending on the weather, but after lunch you’ll explore more of the area. You might be learning about the produce and medicines used by local communities, floating down the river by raft or visiting an animal rescue centre. Of course, if you’re feeling especially lazy then you can always relax on your porch.
Day 3 – Departure from Tena
If you’d like a little longer in the jungle then we can book longer stays here, but otherwise it’ll be time to head back to Tena by boat, where we’ll arrange for a driver to take you on to your next destination.
