Day 1 – Arrival in Punta Arenas
On arrival at the tiny airport you’ll be transferred directly to Punta Arenas, 20 minutes away, and dropped off at your guesthouse where you’ll be staying for the next two nights. Depending on your time of arrival you could take a walk round town. Punta Arenas was once a major trading post area ruled by sheep ranchers and sailors. The elegant houses are a reminder of the town’s prosperity.
Day 2 – Magdalena Island
This morning, you’re free to explore the town on your own. In the afternoon, you’ll be picked up at the hotel and driven down to the harbour for the boat trip along the Strait of Magellan to Magdalena Island, home to an enormous penguin colony. Pathways lead through the island, and you can explore to your heart’s content. The penguins have the right of way, of course, and they don’t stop for anybody!
Day 3 – Continue your journey
After another night at your friendly guest house, it’s time to check out and continue your adventure to your next destination.
