Day 1 – Arrive in Kananaskis

A short drive south from the famous Banff National Park, it won’t be long before you feel a world away from civilisation. Surrounded by pristine forest, your offline family adventure truly begins once you reach your campsite. Set in the woods on the edge of a river, your pre-set Trapper’s Tent is simply furnished with real beds, a wooden floor and a heater for the cold nights.

Outside you’ll find a picnic table and a fire pit, and there are shared bathroom facilities, firewood and simple food available if you need it. Don’t feel like cooking? The Kananaskis resort village is just a 10-minute drive away, where you will find plenty of restaurants. After dinner, it’s time to settle into bed with the sounds of the forest around you.

Day 2 – Survival hike

In the Canadian wilderness, bears, wolves and cougars roam – but what do you do if you encounter them? And how would you survive in the forest should you get lost? Well, today you’ll find out how – on a brilliant survival adventure! We can’t promise that your guide will look like Bear Grylls, but they’ll certainly be able to teach you some of his tricks.

During a gentle hike, you’ll learn survival skills like spotting bear and puma tracks, which berries you can eat, and even how to start a fire without any matches. You’ll visit a hidden waterfall, and the kids will be tasked with collecting wood before you take on the family challenge of building your own shelter!

By noon, your survival walk is over and you’ll have the rest of the day to explore by yourselves, practice your newly acquired skills, or cool off in the river.

Day 3 – Depart from Kananaskis country

Today, it’s time to pack the camp stoves away and return to civilisation as you wave goodbye to your campsite and head on to the next stop of your Canadian adventure.

So, where’s next? It’s just an hour drive up into the Rockies for more majestic mountain scenery!
