Day 1 – Lahad Datu – Danum Valley Conservation Area

You’ll be met on arrival at Lahad Datu airport for your journey into the lush Danum Valley Conservation Area. Covering over 40,000 hectares, this protected tropical rainforest is home to an incredible variety of wildlife including orang-utan and proboscis monkey, rare animals such as the Borneo Pygmy elephant and clouded leopard, more than 120 species of mammals and over 300 species of birds. You’ll be staying in a luxurious eco-lodge in the heart of Danum Valley, in your own fan-cooled wooden chalet, with an en-suite bathroom. All your meals are included. After a brief orientation, head into the forest on a guided walk and then brave the heights of the 300m canopy walkway. After dinner at the lodge, go for a night drive in search of nocturnal animals.

Day 2 – Danum Valley Conservation Area

This morning you’ll wake to the sounds of the jungle. After breakfast, head out with your guide for a trek along the “Coffin Trail”. The trail leads through the rainforest to an ancient burial site of the local tribespeople, where you’ll be able to see remnants of the wooden coffins. Proceed uphill along the trail for an impressive bird’s eye view of the Danum Valley before returning to the lodge in time for lunch.

In the afternoon go on another jungle trek in search of wildlife. If you’re lucky you might even catch a glimpse of an elephant or an orangutan, so keep your eyes peeled. After dinner, depart for another guided night walk.

Day 3 – Danum Valley Conservation Area – Lahad Datu

Your rainforest immersion finishes today. You have the morning free for one last jungle walk, and after a final lunch you’ll travel back to Lahad Datu to continue your trip in Borneo.
