The valleys of Bhutan, in particular the Phobjikha Valley, are just as magical and mysterious as the views of the Himalayas. In spring and winter you can see the rare black-necked cranes that fly from Tibet. You'll stay in a charming mid-range hotel on the edge of the valley. As the morning mist slowly rolls away and the rising sun sparkles off the morning droplets of dew, you'll get the feeling of being somewhere truly special.

Day 1 – Arrival in the Phobjika Valley

To begin this trip you’ll be driven to Gangte, a small town situated on the edge of the Black Mountains. Here you’ll visit Gangte Goemba, a large monastery on the valley rim. It offers a fantastic vantage point for panoramic views of the beautiful valley below. After visiting the Goemba you’ll travel down into the wide, green Phobjikha Valley. The valley is known for the rare black-necked cranes that winter here.

According to many, this is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Himalayas, and we agree. While here you can visit The Crane Centre for information about the black-necked cranes that winter here from November to February. It’s also a great starting point for hikes in the valley and after your own walk through the rolling scenery your driver will take you to your hotel. It has sweeping views of Phobjikha Valley and is built in typical Bhutanese style with pastel colours, wood carvings and a cosy log burner in the restaurant.

Day 2 – Departure from the Phobjikha Valley

On the second day after breakfast you’ll be picked up by your driver as this Bhutan trip draws to a close and your adventure continues to your next destination. Depending on where you are headed, you could spend a few hours walking through the parts of the valley you missed yesterday.
