Getting around Tanzania and Kenya
General informationGetting around Tanzania & Kenya
Getting around Tanzania and Kenya is an adventure in itself, with plenty of options depending on where you’re headed. If you’re covering big distances – like from Dar es Salaam to Arusha or Nairobi to the Masai Mara – domestic flights are quick and widely used. While on safari, you will travel in comfortable 4×4 vehicles that are designed for wildlife viewing and exploring rugged terrain. In cities, taxis are easy to find (just agree on the price first), and apps like Bolt work well in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam. If you’re heading to Zanzibar, ferries run daily from Dar, with Azam Marine being one of the most reliable.
Vehicle and driver
For a stress-free experience, we will organise a Toyota Landcruiser and driver for your journey through Tanzania, and a 4×4 minivan and driver if you’re travelling through Kenya. Our drivers know these roads well and have tonnes of experience navigating the sometimes challenging terrain. They also have top tips for local experiences and hidden gems. Luggage is transported partly in the back and partly on the roof so we advise you to travel with a backpack or soft bag instead of a hard suitcase that may be damaged by the bumpy roads.

Domestic flights
Whilst driving across this region is an adventure in itself, some routes can involve long distances. In such cases, or if you are limited by the number of days, you might want to opt for a domestic flight. There are several routes throughout the region and our Travel Specialists can advise you when to utilise them during your trip.
