Day 1 – Arrival in the Drakensberg
Rising peaks and rugged ridges greet you as you enter the Drakensberg, with the distant mountains of Lesotho stretching into the horizon. This region features peaks between 1,700 and 3,500 metres, overgrown basalt ridges, and mountain streams that sparkle in the sunlight.
Your rustic mountain cottage sits in the heart of the Champagne Valley, the perfect base for exploring the area. On chilly evenings you can cosy up by the fireplace and enjoy the stunning views. The cottage is simply furnished but the hotel also has a swimming pool. If you fancy a walk, reception can point you to the many nearby trails and hiking routes.
Days 2 & 3 – Drakensberg Mountains and Canopy Tour of the Treetops
We’ve lined up an exciting family adventure during your stay: a canopy tour in the Drakensberg. The first leap into the treetops is a real thrill, and soon you’ll be swinging through the trees like Tarzan. Surrounded by nature, you may even spot a few rare birds along the way. The tour lasts around two and a half hours, leaving the rest of the day free for your own plans. Suitable for children aged five and over.
There are plenty of ways to explore the area at your own pace. Ask at the property for maps of the many walking trails, or try something a little different: take a balloon ride over the mountains or enjoy a horse ride through the countryside. The Drakensberg offers endless ways to make your day memorable.

Day 4 – Departure from the Drakensberg
Today you leave the Drakensberg. If you’re heading back to Johannesburg, it’s well worth stopping at Golden Gate National Park. To make the most of it, we recommend an early start. The park sits on the border between Lesotho and the Free State, with green fertile slopes, rushing rivers, and strikingly shaped rock formations in a range of colours. Or carry on your adventure to north.
