Set out to explore Guatemala’s most famous and awe-inspiring Mayan temples at Tikal, set amongst thick jungle in the north of the country, and once featured as a location in Star Wars: A New Hope. You’ll spend 2 nights in the pretty town of Flores on an island on Lake Peten, and will visit the ruins on your second day.

Day 1 - Arrival in Flores

On arrival into Flores, you’ll make your way to your hotel – a charming little place in the old centre with a roof terrace which overlooks the lake. The town itself is a great place to spend an evening or two, with some really good restaurants and a promenade which you can stroll around as you take in the views. It’s best to get an early night though, as tomorrow morning you’ll be up early to head to the ruins.

    Day 2 - Exploring Tikal

If you want a really unique experience then you can opt to head to the site for sunrise with a guide, otherwise we’ll arrange for transport to take you to the gate so that you can explore independently. Tikal has some of the largest pre-Columbian temples in the Americas, including the Lost World Pyramid and Jaguar Temple. You can spend hours wandering through the boulevards and will probably see plenty of wildlife popping out of the jungle on your way.

*Arranging a visit to Tikal can be a little complicated, since you need a ticket which can only be purchased locally at one of Guatemala’s main banks (for about £30) and should be done before you get to Flores. Don’t worry though, we’ll explain it in more detail before you go!

Day 3 - Continue your journey

After another evening relaxing in Flores, it’ll be time to check out and carry on to your next destination. We can book extra nights for you here though of course, if you’d prefer to hang around a little longer.
