Day 1 - Arrival in Guanajuato
Today, you'll arrive in the colourful city of Guanajuato, where ornate churches, grand theatres and painted mansions line the cobbled streets. The centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, filled with charming squares, street musicians and local cafes. You'll stay in a small boutique hotel in the heart of the city centre, just steps away from the Callejón del Beso and the Basilica de Nuestra Señora de Guanajuato.
If you're visiting in October, then you can experience the world-famous Cervantino Festival, where the city comes alive with music, theatre, dance, and street performances from around the world.
Day 2 - Exploring the city
This morning, you can head out and explore the city at your own pace. Starting with a ride on the funicular, taking you up to Monumento al Pípila, where you'll have spectacular views over the city's colourful rooftops and winding streets. Next, venture into town and visit Mercado Hidalgo to browse the vibrant market stalls, filled with local crafts and fresh produce. In the evening, you'll join a traditional callejoneada (Mexican music procession) and walk through the winding alleyways led by an Estudiantina band wearing historic costumes and playing songs, telling stories about the city and inviting you to sing along.
Day 3 - Departure from Guanajuato
Take one final stroll through town, and explore some of the spots you've missed or revisit some of your favourites. Head to the underground tunnels, originally built to prevent flooding, but now used as part of the road system, and feel as if you've stepped into a secret passage. Next, you will be continuing on your journey through Mexico.
