Day 1 – Arrive in Tsitsikamma National Park

Today, you’ll travel to Tsitsikamma National Park, a protected area along the Garden Route known for its rugged coastline and dense forests. The park runs along the southern coast of South Africa and here you will find some of the most dramatic and stunning scenery as you look out over the Indian Ocean. There are plenty of activities available to explore the great outdoors including kayaking, hiking, and canopy tours through the indigenous forest.

Your accommodation is a unique-style property, based on a 19th-century Cape Colonial village and the architecture represents this period. Tucked away in the lush Tsitsikamma forest on the edge of the national park, you’ll enjoy three nights here. There are three on-site restaurants and even a microbrewery, so your family will be well fed and the adults can enjoy an ice-cold beer or two.

Day 2 – Treetop canopy tour in Tsitsikamma National Park

Today the activities begin with a swing in the treetops! After your safety briefing, put on your harness and climb into the trees for incredible views of the lush forest beneath you, from 30m above. This dense forest is home to over 200 different species of birds. You’ll glide from tree to tree, taking breaks at each platform (10 in total), while the guide shares interesting facts about the forest and wildlife around you. After 2.5 hours, you’ll be back on the ground.

This afternoon you can take a walk over the Storm River, cross the suspension bridge, and roam through the indigenous forest this area is famous for. Spot the ocean from the towering cliffs and stumble upon stunning waterfalls to cool off in.

We’ve left today free for you to spend time as a family relaxing or enjoying some of the other activities on offer here. The park’s marine reserve is home to a huge variety of marine life including dolphins, seals and whales (sometimes spotted offshore). If you want the highest chance of seeing these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat, you can arrange a snorkelling or diving excursion. However you wish to spend the day, this area is the perfect spot to add to your family’s South Africa itinerary.

Day 4 – Departure from Tsitsikamma

One last walk on the beach before it’s time to leave this beautiful area. If you’d like to add more nights here we can arrange this for you. For the next destination on your family journey, head to Addo Elephant Park and take a walk on the wild side of South Africa.
