I travel for...
Adventuring into the unknown
That over excited feeling you get when you wake up on Christmas morning to see all the pressies under the tree (some things don’t change with age) – that’s how I feel the morning I’m off on a new adventure. It can be anything from an activity weekend in the UK, a ski trip to Europe, a hiking/biking trip to Canada or a venture across Bali. Just heading to somewhere I’ve never been, where I’ll see new places and faces. That’s what makes me tick.
Learning new skills
I like to be active so my holiday time tends to be spent trying out new things, learning new skills or honing old skills. If it involves windsurfing, surfing, skiing, downhill mountain biking, rafting, waterskiing or rollerskiing (yup, rolling around on tarmac on skis) then I’m in. However, since working at Rickshaw I’ve opened my eyes to a new style of holiday – immersive and experiential travel, not sitting on the outside looking in but getting involved with the communities you’re visiting.
Discovering new dishes
Yes, I’m a fussy eater. There I said it. But I still like to try new foods. Finding new dishes to master at home is great to build on your culinary skills. During my trip to Bali I re-discovered a love for rice, seeing it hand grown really does change your outlook! I’m notorious for loathing seafood – but now I can say I’ve tried swordfish in Santorini, calamari in Greece and even cooked tuna satay in Bali. Sadly, I’m still not a fan, but at least I’ve tried. What I do love is a fondue in the French Alps and a chicken wing in Whistler.
