Ferry to Kythira
Take the ferry and head to the peaceful island of Kythira that is yet to be discovered by the masses. The scent of thyme and sage fills the fresh sea air and time seems to have stood still here, with white houses that have traditional blue shutters and brightly colored bougainvillea, the typical Greek image of the Cyclades. There are no large resorts here and you will sleep in a homely apartment that is decorated in a traditional island style.
Out and about with an islander & free time
Today you venture out into the countryside with an English-speaking local, who has had a long-lasting love affair with Kythira and knows the island as well as anyone. They’ll take you to unknown corners of the island, walking through remote villages and into Greek Orthodox churches that are normally closed. Learn everything about daily life on the island, its history and its traditions. You will also get to taste the local flavours that will be sure to fill your heart with joy.
The rest of your time here is free to you to fall in love with the island on your own and do your own exploring. Head to Mylopotamos, one of the oldest villages of Kythira nestled in green, natural surroundings. Ten minutes from the village is the waterfall of Fonissa, at the base of which small lakes form making the forest seem magical. Alternatively, head south to the beautiful pebble beach of Kaladi is one of the most beautiful beaches of Kythira.
Departure from Kythira
Your romance with Kythera is now ready to come to an end, unless you prefer to book some extra time there. Yu can just let your travel specialist know. When it is time to leave, take the ferry to the Peloponnese and drive 4.5 hours to Athens, or enjoy the area a little longer sipping Ouzo in Nafplion.
Kythira – Canyoning tour
Today you will venture out for an active afternoon canyoning. Canyoning is a combination of climbing, abseiling and hiking along rivers, which is perfect for this region. Your experienced guide will lead you through the Kakia Lagada gorge (also called the Evil Gorge). The abseiling is done at a maximum height of 10 meters, so it is also fine for beginners, just as long as you are fit and up for it!
