Arrival in Ella

Your trip to Ella will begin with a scenic train ride from Nuwara Eliya through rolling, green countryside. Travelling in 3rd class, you’ll watch spectacular landscapes whizz past your window. We think this is all part of the experience and a really authentic alternative to travelling by private car! When you arrive at Ella station, you’ll see your driver giving you a wave on the platform to take you to your hotel.

Trekking & Departure

This morning you’ll wake up to the endless mountain views that surround you. Lace up your boots; it’s time for some hard work as you set off on a trek to Little Adam’s Peak! Armed with a map of the routes and a packed lunch that we’ll provide, you’ll begin your brisk walk for about two hours through tea plantations, beautiful train bridges and remote villages.

Once you’ve climbed the large steps to the summit, you can put your feet up at the top as you look out over the gigantic ridges. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous today, you could climb Ella Rock instead. This is a more challenging trek where you’ll walk for about 4 hours through winding jungle trails to reach the top.

The next day you’ll take in the breathtaking views of Ella one last time, then it’s time to wave goodbye as you head onwards with your driver to your next destination.

Speak to our Sri Lanka specialist, David

“There’s nowhere like Sri Lanka. Having travelled all over the country, it wasn’t long before I fell completely in love with its beaches, tea hills, wild rainforest and national parks. Oh, and did I mention the spicy curries? They knocked my socks off!”
