Overview
Relatively few visitors come to Costa Ballena on the Pacific Coast so you can relax on deserted beaches, sunbathe between the palm trees and take beautiful beach walks. You'll stay in a tented lodge surrounded by tropical vegetation. From Ojochal, where your accommodation is located, you can easily reach the Ballena National Marine Park, spot dolphins in the bay and snorkel in one of the best spots in Costa Rica. Although accessible by shuttle bus, this peaceful slice of the country is best visited with a rental car.

Arrival in Ojochal
Arriving on the Pacific Coast, a lesser visited area than other parts of Costa Rica, you will get a sense of the relaxed vibe permeating through the area. You’ll stay at a luxury tented lodge, with roomy tents with a private bathroom and hot water. The resort also has great sustainability credentials and supports the local school. This unique lodge will allow you to immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and smells of the tropical rainforest. Sit back and relax on your private terrace or by the nearby river.
Dolphin spotting & snorkelling
Today you’ll go on a boat ride and snorkelling trip in Marino Ballena National Park, the only underwater national park in Costa Rica. Look out for dolphins along the coast, if you’re lucky the dolphins will swim right up close to the boat. The dolphins remain here throughout the year and, if you’re here betweem Jul-Oct or Dec-Apr, you’ll have the chance to spot whales. Afterwards it’s your turn to take a dip as you snorkel amongst the tropical fishes!
Free Time & Departure
Day three is free to relax or visit some of the beaches in the surrounding area. If you want to explore the even more remote Corcovado National Park we can organise a day trip for you. The next day you’ll leave the Costa Ballena after breakfast and head for you next destination.
Day Trip to Corcovado National Park
If you are a little short on time to stay in Corcovado National Park overnight or fancy a taste of this remote wilderness but with more comfy accommodation then a day trip is ideal. It consists of jungle walks, animal spotting and taking a refreshing dip in a waterfall. You can only visit this area with a trained local guide, an expert in finding the critters who live here. It’s a long, but rewarding day exploring this remote corner of Costa Rica!
