For generations the Bribri community have lived in a small village near the Panama border completely. Swim in the river with the local Bribri children, walk through banana plantations and follow the cacao route. Your day-by-day itinerary
Arrival in Yorkin
Today you’ll travel to the harbour of Bambú where you’ll be met by your guide. After a two hour canoe trip through the tropical forest you’ll arrive in the village of the Bribri community. You’ll have a tour of the village and visit the school and cacao and banana plantations. You might like to bring a change of clothes because you can get splashed a little in the small boat!
After lunch, you’ll see how the roofs are woven and have the chance to make your own chocolate! You’ll visit a traditional farm and learn which trees and plants have medicinal effects. In the evening, a delicious dinner will be prepared for you using local produce. After dinner you’ll light the campfire and learn more about the BriBri tribe and their culture. Tonight you’ll stay in a traditonal Bribri cabaña with a palm leaf roof, mosquito net and shared bathroom.
Departure from Yorkin
This morning you’ll wake up to the sound of crickets and birdsong. After breakfast, you’ll be picked up by your guide for a four-hour hike through the rainforest. Remember to bring your suntan lotion, mosquito repellent and swimming costume. The highlight of this walk is the waterfall located on Panamanian territory. After lunch, you’ll travel by canoe back to Bambú and head back to Puerto Viejo.
