Amigos de Potosí
Amigos de Potosi is a Dutch-based charity with a local coordinator and volunteers who try to provide the children of the many miners working in the “Cerro Rico” with a better way of living and working outside the mines. The charity runs small-scale education projects in the city and countryside around Potosí, encouraging children to go (and remain) in school. They believe that the local people are in the best position to find solutions, so all their projects are in cooperation with those who actually receive help.

Where does my money go?
Amigos de Potosi always have a variety of different projects underway in and around Potosí. One of them is Laja Tambo where they are building a glasshouse to provide the schoolchildren (and local community) with vegetables. They also offer a music project at the elementary school San Ildefonso in the miners’ district of the town. The 176 pupils have music lessons for two hours a week. They learn their traditional music, from an orchestra and find out how they can earn money from being a musician.
