Day 1 – Welcome to the white world of Rovaniemi

Land in Lapland and discover a world of snow and ice. A driver will be waiting for you at the airport and just in a short while you’ll be dropped at your accommodation. For the next few days you’ll be staying in a characterful chalet-style cabin set atop a hill overlooking vast forests and snow-covered plains. It’s cosy and warm inside and you’ve got all the amenities including a bath, a kitchenette and a traditional Finnish sauna! The city is within walking distance but you’re sure to feel miles away from civilisation, surrounded by pristine nature and spectacular views. The rest of the day is free for you to get to know the area, and your real adventure begins tomorrow.

Today you’ll head out on your first Arctic activity, a husky safari! You’ll meet these easily excitable energetic dogs and learn how to handle them. After a thorough briefing with your guide, you’ll climb a sled pulled by six or more huskies, who will be full of anticipation and ready to whisk you through the snowy landscape in a heartbeat. With one person acting as the musher (driver), the others in the sled can enjoy the winter wonderland. You’ll make a stop halfway through to give the dogs some rest and calm down the excitement a bit. Enjoy a hot drink, take in the scenery and swap with your driver if you feel like giving stirring your new furry friends a go. There’s nothing else planned for you for the day, but if you’d like to pack your adventure with more exciting things to do, chat to your Travel Specialist and they will help you fill your time in Finnish Lapland.

Today is packed full of amazing activities. You’ll start with a thrilling drive through the Arctic on an e-snowmobile. It’s is a fun (and eco-friendly) way to discover the Arctic nature in complete silence. You’ll master your snowmobiling skills as you drive through the glistening forests and over the frozen lakes. Nature is pretty spectacular in the Arctic and you’ll be tempted to snap some shots! We though so, and we’ve got you covered. Halfway through your ride you’ll make a stop at a scenic viewpoint to take those insta-worthy images – don’t forget to tag us ;). You’ll also join around a bonfire at a traditional kota for some much-needed refuel (think grilled sausages and a hot drink – let us know of your dietary requirements in advance!). At the end of your adventure you’ll be transferred back to your chalet.

This evening you will meet your guide and drive into nature to a secluded place in the dark, where you will have a wide view of the (starry) sky. Your guide keeps a close eye on the weather conditions and can estimate the best chances for you to see the Northern Lights. While you eat some local snacks and warm yourself up with a hot drink, you’ll be waiting in suspense. Experience the special peaceful atmosphere that the snow gives in the dark and have your camera ready. After all, you never know when the Northern Lights will show themselves!

Days 4-5 – A kingdom of snow and ice and departure

Today you will be picked up and taken to what is for many travellers the highlight of their Lapland winter holiday. Tonight you will sleep in a hotel made of snow and ice: the walls, the roof, the beds and even the glasses in the bar are all frozen. Take a tour through the hotel, where your guide will tell you about how the hotel is rebuilt every year. For the night you’ll get a thick thermal suit, a sleeping bag and some reindeer skins on the mattress to keep you warm… sleep well! The next morning you will be woken up with a warm berry drink and the breakfast buffet will be ready for you to enjoy.
