Where to go on holiday in July

Beach sun

July is all about beaches. From the sun-kissed sands of Sri Lanka to the secluded coves of Indonesia, it’s the perfect time for kicking off your flip flops and grabbing a fresh fruit cocktail.

Indonesia

While Bali may be a little crowded in July, Sumatra and Flores are hardly jam-packed. There’s a reason for the tourist numbers though; the weather in July is fantastic across the country with gorgeously high temperatures and plenty of sunshine. If the beach is beckoning you, July is the time to go.

Sri Lanka

The south and west of Sri Lanka are drenched by the monsoon in July, which might leave you feeling left out in the cold if you’re looking for beaches. Don’t despair, just head to the north-east beaches near Trincomalee for plenty of sun, sand and relaxation. With temperatures around 35 degrees, you might even be thankful for some shade.

Borneo

Although July is the driest month in Borneo, you’ll still need to pack your waterproofs. It doesn’t stop raining, it just rains less. There are a few festivals throughout July too. Head to Kuching for the Rainforest World Music Festival or, if your flight ticket allows it, plan a stopover in Brunei for Sultan’s birthday on the 15th.

Bolivia

July is peak season for Bolivia with little to no rainfall across the country. Even the Amazon basin is dryer than usual, brining the animals out in search of water. Clear skies in the mountains make this an ideal time of year for photographers looking to snap that perfect Bolivia postcard picture.
