Your day-by-day itinerary
Day of the dinosaurs....
It’s a fairly long drive to get to the middle of nowhere, and you’ll be greeted in typical American style by the giant pink dinosaur which marks the entrance to Vernal. It’s a little tacky of course, but it’ll definitely get the kids excited about what’s ahead! You’ll be staying in a classic US motel, complete with a pool where you can cool off after the drive.
Just a short drive from Vernal, set amongst steep canyons, you’ll find the Dinosaur National Monument. With over 1500 bones on display, this is the dinosaur capital of the USA. Expert rangers are on hand to explain everything to the children, and they can even reach out and touch the bones without getting in any trouble! It’s a once in a lifetime experience for any Jurassic Park fans, young or old.
Departure from Vernal
You could stay a little longer here, especially if you want to check out the Natural History Museum or the Indian rock art in Cub Creek, but otherwise it’ll be time to check out and continue your road trip. From here you can drive north into the Rocky Mountain and Teton National Park, or south to Moab Arches.
