Day 1

Arrival in San Francisco

Today you’ll arrive into San Francisco and make your way to your hotel, located in the downtown district and close to a number of restaurants and cafes. You’ll be within easy walking distance of Union Square, Chinatown and the cable cars so after having checked in, why not stretch those legs and head out for your first taste of Californian life in “The City”!

Day 2

It's time for a treasure hunt!

With so much to see and do, it can be difficult to know where to start. Fortunately, your first full morning will be spent with a friendly and knowledgeable guide who will help you get your bearings with a fun treasure hunt across the city! Along the way, you’ll hear stories about the gold rush, count the Painted Ladies on Alamo Square, taste fortune cookies in Chinatown and play interactive games in the Italian Quarter.

Your walking tour will end around lunchtime at the hugely popular Fisherman’s Wharf, which may be a little crowded but is well worth a visit! There are plenty of places to find a spot to eat and lots of street artists, magicians, and comedians to keep the whole family entertained. Pier 39 is home to a large group of protected sea lions, and from here, you’ll also enjoy sumptuous views out across the bay. Armed with your guide’s top tips, the rest of the day is yours to roam free!

Fancy visiting Alcatraz?

Fancy visiting Alcatraz?

We can also arrange a visit to Alcatraz for you, either in place of, or as well as the treasure hunt. This famous prison island is well known as it was pretty much impossible to escape. On arrival, you can take one of the free walking tours, or take the audio tour recorded by a former prisoner who spent many years here. Once you’ve explored the cells and the island, you’ll head back to the mainland by boat. Book well in advance as tickets sell out very quickly.

Day 3

Continue to explore San Francisco

One of the main draws to this region is of course the magnificent Golden Gate Bridge and it’s impossible not to want that photo, so we recommend heading out early to capture it! Afterwards, take a stroll through the huge Golden Gate Park and pay a visit to the California Academy of Sciences – home to an aquarium, planetarium, natural history museum, and rain forest – all under one roof!

Tram in San Francisco

You may also like to head out on to the water with a cruise across the bay or take a ride on one of the many historic cable cars found across the city, which are a great way to explore and tackle the many hills! Other family-friendly highlights include the Walt Disney Family Museum, the immersive and interactive Exploratorium at the waterfront by Pier 15, and the indulgent Museum of Ice Cream. Yum! However you choose to spend your day, you’ll be sure to enjoy it.

Day 4

Departure from San Francisco

Today it’s time to leave this vibrant city behind and embark on the next leg of your American adventure! Before you do though, make sure you find the time to pay a visit to Lombard Street – unofficially titled the “crookedest street in the world”! Flanked by grand Victorian mansions, take a drive through the eight tight hairpin turns or walk down the steep steps of one of the most iconic sights in San Francisco.
