Arrival at Zion National Park

Around 3 hours from Las Vegas, lies Zion National Park – not just on a different time zone but a different world entirely from the glitz and bright lights of America’s entertainment capital. As you meander through the red mountain landscape, passing cosy picnic spots and beautiful viewpoints as you go, you’ll reach the charming town of Springdale.

mountain landscape

You’ll spend two nights here in a small lodge with plenty of atmosphere and fantastic outdoor pool from which to cool off in, with the soaring red rocks of Zion National Park providing a breathtaking backdrop. The village itself has some fantastic dining options and if you can find the time, the kids will love tubing down the Virgin River. There are also some ghost towns nearby, which can make for a haunting evening out.. if you dare!

Biking in Zion National Park

As Zion National Park is a car-free zone, with only the park’s shuttle buses allowed on the roads, it is a perfect place to strap a helmet on and explore on two wheels! Bicycles are readily available for adults and children, and for the extra little ones, a special trailer can be fitted to the parent’s bike so the whole family can enjoy a great day out. If cycling isn’t your thing, don’t worry as there are plenty of free shuttle buses to get you around instead.

cycling through mountains

The park itself is a geological masterpiece, with verdant valleys and vermilion cliffs providing the scenery as you cycle along the canyon floor.  The best route to take will be the Pa’rus Trail as it is family-friendly, easy on the legs, and incredibly scenic. If you fancy keeping your feet on the ground, then it is also the most popular hiking trail. After a picnic lunch at the majestic Emerald Pool Waterfall, you’ll have the rest of the day to enjoy the rich biodiversity before returning to your lodge for the evening.

Departure from Zion Springdale

Today you’ll likely head to the big brother of all canyons – the Grand Canyon! This is one of America’s most visited national parks and the feeling when you’re on ‘the Rim’ is indescribable.

For something a little different, you could also head to Bryce Canyon for a real cowboy ranch experience in the Wild West! Brilliant fun for the whole family.
