Arrive at Tusayan, near the South Rim

Driving away from the mountains, you’ll head towards a far flatter landscape – the Colorado Plateau. As you’ll be visiting the South Rim, you’ll stay in the nearby town of Tusayan, just outside the national park entrance. There’s little to see and do here but your hotel has its own pool and there are plenty of restaurants close by. If you’re a sunset lover, be sure to take a trip to Yavapai Point in the evening for your first taste of what’s in store tomorrow.

Visit the Grand Canyon

Today you will get to witness one of the greatest natural wonders on Earth! To make visiting the Grand Canyon easier with children, we recommend leaving the car at the hotel and taking the free environmentally-friendly shuttle bus that runs every 15 minutes. If you’re traveling with young children, be sure to pop by the visitor centre to pick up a junior ranger program (free) too.

Finally, with your hiking boots laced and camera fully charged, it is on to the South Rim! As you stand on the edge of the world, gazing out across the vast geological landscape, the views will take your breath away. For some of the best views, we recommend Grandview Point, Mather Point and Hermit’s Rest – all easily reached by the free shuttle. There are also some wonderful kid-friendly hikes on offer, with the Rim Trail being the easiest for all ages and fitness levels. After your incredible day comes to an end, you’ll return to your hotel in Tusayan.
