Arrive in Sweden

Today you will via Stockholm to Luleå, where you will your family adventure to Lapland begins. A driver will be waiting at the airport to take you to your lodge, home for the next few days. The lodge is beautifully situated, right on the Baltic coast and at the edge of the forest. This part of the Baltic Sea freezes completely in winter, creating a thick piece of pack ice. Check into your comfortable chalet that has two bedrooms, a separate living room, kitchenette and a veranda with a sea view. There aren’t many options to eat out in the immediate vicinity, so you’ll stay here on a half board basis to make things stress-free. Make sure you get some sleep tonight, as you’ll need it for the next few days of action!

Free time to enjoy the natural surroundings

The next day is free for you to spend it however you want. Unwind and enjoy nature in the immediate vicinity. There are a few reindeer at the lodge for you to feed and snowshoes for hire, so that you can take on an independent walk. If you like, we can also plan activities for you in advance, so that you don’t miss out on anything. The lodge also has a sauna, where you can warm up after a day in the snow. And although you are still slightly below the Arctic Circle here, you still have a good chance of spotting the Northern Lights at night, as there is no light pollution here and because of its location by the sea, you also have an unobstructed view of the horizon.

Arctic Circle Express

After breakfast today you will be transferred to the train station, ready to board the Arctic Circle Express train to Kiruna. The journey lasts about 4.5 hours, travelling over 200 km above the Arctic Circle. The whole family will find this a thrilling ride and will be able to enjoy all the stunning views of the landscape. When you get to Kiruna, you will picked up at the train station and brought to your lodge on the outskirts of the village. Check into your semi-detached chalet complete with lounge, a small kitchenette and a separate bedroom with bunk beds for the children.

A day of fun in the snow

Today you’ll have free time to organize yourselves. There are lots of fun winter sports activities in the area and you’ll even find a small ski slope within walking distance of the lodge, where you can ski, snowboard or rent sledges for the children. If you are traveling with teenagers and are looking for a bit more action and adventure, we can also plan an ice climbing course for you or an excursion where you can spot moose in the wild on horseback. Your lodge also has a fitness room and an extensive spa, where you can use the indoor and outdoor pool, sauna and steam bath for a surcharge after a day in the snow.

Drive your own husky sled

A sled ride with huskies is on the bucket list for many travellers who visit Lapland, so today you’ll be taken to the husky kennels to be introduced to these furry friends. The animals love the cold winter climate and thrive here. After a short briefing you’ll get on the sled and soar through the forest. Along the way, enjoy views of mountains and snow-covered trees and you might even come across moose. After this exciting ride you’ll head back to the kennel and help take care of the dogs. You’ll be sure to have worked up an appetite by now, so you’ll stop for some lunch whilst the owners tell you more about local life. After lunch you’ll give the huskies one more cuddle and travel back to your lodge.
