Hot sand between your toes, the sound of the waves crashing into the shore, the sun glistening off the ocean and a cold drink in hand… how lovely to be by the sea-side. Being a country made of islands, Indonesia has some top-notch beaches on offer. To make it easier to decide which one is right for you, we have made a list of our top five, or you can decide to visit them all!
1. Gili Meno
The Gilis are 3 small islands just off the coast of Lombok and only a 2-hour speedboat ride away from Bali. With its white beaches, superb snorkelling and diving, quiet roads (no cars), and typical island feel with warm welcoming locals it is easily one of the most sought-after spots in Indonesia. The three islands between them have something for everybody. The quietest of the islands – the honeymoon spot of Gili Meno – has many quiet beaches with a few loungers where you can sit back and read that book you’ve been meaning to finish or grab your snorkel gear and marvel at the colourful fish, reef and turtles in the clear blue water.
2. Gili Air
The smallest island of the Gilis is known as the diving island. The snorkelling and diving is superb at all three of the islands, but if you are looking to get your PADI certificate whilst enjoying a quiet relaxed beach stay, Gili Air is the place for you. The Gili’s are so close to each other that you can wave at people on the beach of the neighbouring island, or visit another Gili for a day by local boat, which only takes about 30 minutes.
