In March this year we welcomed our newest team member, Pauline who had travelled from Germany to the UK to experience life in Brighton and gain work experience in the travel industry. Now it’s time to say goodbye as she heads back to begin her studies at University – with a new sense of direction of what she would like to do in the future. Over to you Pauline!
I turned 19 during my amazing stay in Brighton. But now it’s time to say goodbye, i’d like to share my story about interning at Rickshaw Travel…
After I finished school last year I decided not to go straight to university and first figure out what I really want to do in my future life. I had two possibilities to choose from: go abroad or gain work experience. But as this was quite a hard decision to make I turned on my computer and looked for opportunities to get work experience abroad! After a few hours on the internet I found an agency that specialised in work placements for people like me in Brighton.
I really liked the idea of living in Brighton for a few months so I sent my CV to the agency and after two weeks they told me they could find a job for me if I sorted out my plane ride to the UK. The first four weeks in Brighton I went to a language school to ease into my new life in England and of course practice my English skills. In my first week I got an email from the agency to say that they had found a company called Rickshaw Travel who were interested in me as an intern. And as you can see – I got the job!
Gaining skills and a new direction
During my last three months in the UK, I worked with Rickshaw Travel and I had an absolutely incredible time. Right from the beginning, I felt a part of the big Rickshaw family which made my stay even more enjoyable – in and out of the office.
During these three months, I had the chance to help the Marketing, Finance and Product teams, whilst helping to build a new website. This meant I could see how the whole company worked in the different departments which were really interesting and I now know that I definitely want to study Marketing with Finance when I get back to Germany.
Interning with a difference
The whole time I spent with Rickshaw Travel was amazing as I got really involved in the daily life of the company; writing blogs, editing photos, learning to build reports, decorating the office for the website launch party and even learning to hula hoop! A particular highlight for me was walking the office pup, Teddy at lunch. The team is incredible and I really felt the passion they have to create a once-in-a-lifetime experience for their customers.
I absolutely enjoyed my time in Brighton and I will miss the Rickshaw Travel Team a lot! But I will come back – I promise.
If the sound of hula hooping, creative writing and working on exciting projects rings your bell then hop on over to see how you could join our team and become the next Rickshawian!
