Maria La Gorda – Rugged beauty and great diving
Situated at the far western tip of Cuba, this is said by some to be the country’s premier dive spot – which is most people’s main reason to visit Maria La Gorda.
The accommodation options are on the basic side, and it lacks many of the big resort facilities you’ll find elsewhere, but the area is beautiful to explore if you have a hire car and the diving is excellent. If you want to get away from the crowds then this could be the place for you.
How to get there: Easiest with a hire car, but also reachable by private transfer. It is around 4 hrs drive west of Havana or 2.5 hours from Viñales.
