Here at Rickshaw we always like to do things a bit differently. This is why this year we decided to organise our very own Ceilidh dance event as part of our summer party! Annemarie, our lovely Office Manager tells you all about it…
Time to dance!
This was my first go at organising a Rickshaw event and I had so much fun planning and organising everything with the help of Sophia!
Originally the word ceilidh (kay-lee) descended from the Gaelic word for ‘gathering’ or ‘party’… However, these days when people think of a ceilidh, they think of a fun-filled day of wild dancing, good music and great company!
This is why we decided to organise a ceilidh (or Barn Dance) for our Rickshaw Summer party. The beauty of such a fun activity is that everyone can take part, young or old, experienced dancers to beginners and even those with two left feet!
We had lots of fun, and what made it even more meaningful was that we invited along different local charities to come and dance with us – and everybody loved it! The charities that attended included Justlife (helping single homeless people that live in vulnerable situations), St Johns Ambulance (teaching first aid skills), The Clock Tower Sanctuary (supporting homeless young people) and The Outlook Foundation (supporting young adults with learning disabilities).
The event was held as a way to give something back to people in the Brighton community that are less fortunate and I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone that got involved with this.
A jolly good time
People from the Rickshaw Team kindly baked the most delicious cakes, we had a live band playing traditional Scottish music and the whole event was fantastic.
There was lots of dancing, laughing eating and having fun and a good time was had by all.
I will be looking into further fundraising events that we can do in the near future as a team to raise awareness for local charities, such as a book sale, cake sale and possibly even a sponsored walk!
If you work for a local charity and would like to get involved in one of our events, get in touch!
