Arrival in the Rainforest
When you arrive in Sinharaja, you’ll be welcomed by the owner, a former ranger, before making yourself at home in your simple, friendly guest house located near the entrance to the park. Despite their simplicity, the rooms are clean and well maintained. This afternoon you’ll have some free time to do as you please. Simply relax at your guesthouse or take a stroll through the neighbourhood, it’s completely up to you!
You’ll wake up this morning ready to explore the rainforest of the Sinharaja National Park. As you walk through the tropical surroundings, you’ll quickly realise how much life there is here. Discover lush, green vegetation, from small, carnivorous plants to 50m high trees. Don’t forget to look out for the exotic animals too; from long centipedes and colourful lizards to screeching monkeys up in the trees. The bird life here is particularly impressive.
After paying the entrance fee you can decide which hike to take; there are several routes to choose from ranging from 4 to 14 km. The local guides are very experienced and are so in tune with the sounds of the rainforest that they seem to sense whenever a creature is nearby. Compared to other national parks in Sri Lanka, Sinharaja is not often visited by tourists. In the afternoon you’ll return to your accommodation where you can shower and freshen up after your adventure through the forest. The rest of the day is for you to spend at your own leisure.
Departure from Sinharaja
This morning will be the last time you wake to the sounds of the rainforest at Sinharaja. Once you’ve had your breakfast, you’ll bid farewell to this UNESCO World Heritage Site and continue to the next destination on your Sri Lanka holiday.

This property lies near the Sinharaja National Park, with only 10 rooms it fits in perfectly with the nature surrounding it. The stone buildings are built into the rocks and natural stone is used in the entire complex, although this does mean you need to watch out for slippery floors when it’s wet. The rooms are very comfortable, there is a small pool and the hotel’s restaurant is protected by a rocky outcrop.
