Your day-by-day itinerary

The coastline in Galle

Day 1

Galle & Colombo

Your journey back to Colombo begins with a stop in Galle, where you’ll recognise the influence of the Portuguese, British and Dutch settlers. You’ll be shown around by a local guide, who’ll explain some of the history of this attractive colonial city as you explore on foot. After around an hour and a half, you’ll wave goodbye to your guide and continue north to Colombo, around 2.5 hours away.

The coastline in Colombo

Sri Lanka’s capital may not be the most attractive place in the country, but it’s a buzzing city with some great restaurants and shops, as well as an interesting history. As you enter the city your driver will show you some of the highlights, before you stop for a traditional high tea, which will be pretty welcome after your journey. You’ll spend the night in a stylish boutique hotel located by the lake in Colombo, and set a little away from the bustle of the commercial district.

Speak to our Sri Lanka specialist, David

“There’s nowhere like Sri Lanka. Having travelled all over the country, it wasn’t long before I fell completely in love with its beaches, tea hills, wild rainforest and national parks. Oh, and did I mention the spicy curries? They knocked my socks off!”
