Departure from Serangan, Bali
This morning you’ll be welcomed by your crew as you set off from Serangan in Southern Bali, and into the unknown. You can relax on the sun deck and get to know your fellow travellers as you sail along the East Coast of Bali, until making the first stop on the beach of Ambo just after lunch. Here you can explore the water palace of Amlapura and the lush rice terraces which surround it. Back on board, you finally bid farewell to Bali, and sail overnight towards Lombok.
In the morning you’ll awaken to find yourself in Labuhan, on Lombok. After breakfast, you’ll go ashore and visit a village known for its ceramics, admiring a traditional Sasak dance, before enjoying a lunch in the village. Back on board you’ll continue your journey to the small island of Kondo. Visit a coral reef conservation project and then dive into the cool water with your snorkels to see the colourful underwater world for yourself. Overnight you’ll continue your journey east.
Today the ship will rest at Satonda – an uninhabited volcanic island, and one of the highlights of the journey. The locals believe that the water of the Satonda Crater Lake can extend your life and that the nearby trees can fulfil wishes…..worth a try at least! You’ll also have time to snorkel amongst the pristine Coral Reef along the coast, and as the sun sets you can sit on deck with a cold beer and watch as the bats of Satonda head over to the mainland in search of food. You’ll continue until Sumbawa, a few kilometres away, where to boat will drop anchor for the evening.
As the sun comes up you’ll reach the village of Wera on the east coast of Sumbawa, where you’ll gain an insight into the local culture, as well as the boat-making techniques which form an important part of the community. In the afternoon, after visiting the imposing Sangeang Volcano, you’ll reach the first island in the Komodo National Park, the island of Banta. Following a pause so you can explore the colourful reef around Banta, you’ll move on towards Komodo Island, where you’ll moor for the night.
You’ll wake up in front of the quiet bay of the famous Komodo Island, and after a hearty breakfast you’ll head ashore to meet the local Ranger. He will take you on an exhilarating hike through the dry and wild landscape of the island, searching for the prehistoric Komodo Dragon. With a camera full of pictures (hopefully!), you’ll sail on to ‘Red Beach’ – home to one of the most colourful coral reefs in all of East Indonesia. In the evening you’ll share stories on deck with a well-earned bottle of Bintang beer.
Today you’ll continue to nearby Rinca Island, home to a huge variety of animals including monkeys, buffalo and Komodo Dragons (of course!). The Ranger will lead you to one of the best viewing points on the island, where you’ll look out over the incredible landscape and deep blue sea beyond it. In the evening, the crew will prepare a barbeque for everyone on the beach, so you can spend your last night relaxing and reminiscing about your epic journey, before sailing on to your final destination, Labuan Bajo in the west of Flores.
Flores - the end of the journey
After one last dip in the sea and a relaxing breakfast on board the ship, sadly it’s time to say goodbye to the crew and your fellow travellers as you disembark in Labuan Bajo. From here you can set off to explore the volcanoes and tribal cultures of Flores, or simply fly back to the comforts of Bali for a relaxing end to your Indonesian adventure.
The plan described above gives a good idea of the route but is subject to change, dependent upon weather, delays and local factors.
