Day 1

Arrival in Sidemen

The moment that you arrive in this beautiful green valley and settle into your cottage, you’ll feel instantly at home. You’ll stay in a small-scale spiritual resort  offering all kinds of meditation and yoga, so feel free to plunge straight in. From your resort, you can follow the path down to the river for a refreshing swim in the cool water that flows from the volcanic mountains.

Gunung Agung Trek & Departure

You’ll be up well before dawn to trek to the summit of Mount Agung for sunrise. The hike starts from the Pasar Agung temple, with prayers to ask the gods to bless your climb and prepare you for entering the spiritual hub of the whole island. From here, you’ll follow a steep and winding path through the trees. As you get above the tree line, you’ll climb over large boulders and scree as you approach the summit.

As daylight slowly breaks, you’ll get closer to the peak and your efforts will be rewarded with a sunrise to really remember. You’ll grab a bite for breakfast as day breaks, with spectacular views over Bali and Lombok from the summit, and you’ll also get a chance to glimpse inside the volcano crater.

The next day, after a well earned rest, you’ll gather your things and get ready to hit the road again.

Speak to our Indonesia specialist, Miles

“From the moment I first stepped off the plane, I was swept away by Indonesia’s charm and beauty- so much so, that I’ve since lost count of how many times I’ve been! It’s got beaches, cultural wonders, wildlife & warm weather. What’s not to love?”
