Arrival in Brunei
Today your trip will begin with your arrival into Brunei. We can either arrange for Brunei to be the first stop in your Borneo itinerary and you can fly directly to Bandar Seri Begawan. If this is the case then you will be met at the airport by our driver. If you have already been travelling around Borneo, we can connect this trip on with a transfer from Miri to your hotel in Brunei.
You will be travelling in a small group and staying in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of the Sultanate. During your trip you will be staying in a comfortable mid-range hotel that is located near the centre. The evening is yours to spend as you please, so you can head out into Bandar Seri Begawan (often called BSB) and see what the city has to offer.
Brunei - City & Water Village Tour
This morning after breakfast you will be met at your hotel by your guide at around 9am. Along with your group of fellow travellers you will visit some of the highlights of Bandar Seri Begawan. The tour will take you to the morning market, the Maritime Museum or the Brunei Museum, Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque and the Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque (non-muslims are not allowed to enter the mosques on Thursdays and Fridays). The tour also includes a visit to the Istana Nurul Iman, the largest occupied palace in the world, and the official residence of His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam. This building with its 1788 rooms is only open to tourists a few days a year, so it is likely you will be viewing it from the outside.
After all this sightseeing you are sure to be hungry so you will stop at a local restaurant for lunch. A typical dish includes rice and vegetables, both of which are grown in Brunei itself. Since Brunei is a strongly Islamic-oriented country, no pork is served. After lunch you will visit the Royal Regalia Museum, which was built in 1992 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the accession to the throne.
Next it is time to see a different side of Brunei by taking a boat ride to one of the largest water villages in the world. Along the way you will stop and visit the house of a villager and get a unique opportunity to learn more about the daily lives of the locals living in water villages like this one. Many tourists come to BSB, but most don’t have the chance to visit a village like this. Last but not least the tour will take you to the Yayasan Shopping Complex, where you can find everything you need and don’t need. After this long day you’ll be happy to return to the hotel, just fall into bed and recharge your batteries for the next exciting day.
Brunei - Mangrove Boat Tour & Departure
Today you will need to be up early as you will be collected from your hotel around 7.30am. You will take a boat tour along the shore to the mangrove forests that line the coast. With a little luck you will be able to spot some mudskippers, kingfishers, silver and grey herons, and also the endangered proboscis monkeys.
At the end of the morning the tour ends. You will be transferred to your hotel, where you will pick up your luggage and check out. Your driver will take you to the airport where the tour ends.

Upgrade to our Special Stay accommodation
If you’d prefer to spend your time in Brunei in a bit more style then why not upgrade to our Special Stay Brunei hotel. Our luxury hotel is not in the city centre, but on the opposite side, located on the South China Sea. This huge complex was originally built by a prince for accommodation for the royal family it has since been converted into a hotel. The hotel is spread over several buildings and has more than 500 rooms. It is decorated with lots of marble and in the lobby there are countless hanging lamps. The rooms are lavishly furnished and beautifully decorated. In our opinion, the building is a bit over the top, but it gives you a real taste of the extravagance of Brunei. This is the ideal place to either begin or end your Borneo trip.
