Explore the Kathmandu Valley
Trek between small villages and hilltop temples in the Kathmandu Valley, getting a behind-the-scenes of local life beyond the city limits. Sleep in comfortable hotels with sweeping views over the distant snowy peaks, walk through forests, cross terraced fields and wave at the school kids as you pass. You’ll end up in Bhaktapur, a traffic-free medieval town steeped in spiritual atmosphere, where you can sit back in a rooftop cafe, listen to Buddhist chants and soak up your surroundings.
Try the Helambu Homestay trek
One of our favourite trips in Nepal, this trek will take you into the heart of mountainous Nepal. You’ll meet the locals, lend a hand with the cooking and even spend a night as guests of the mayor! Lasting a full week, it’s not for the faint-hearted, but it’s packed with Himalayan spirit and staggering views. You’ll spend one night in a lodge etched into the cliff edge, surrounded by snow-tipped peaks and trek between welcoming villages in the foothills.
Escape to Everest Base Camp
Probably the most famous trekking route in the world, the trail to Everest Base Camp is crammed with breathtaking scenery. Climb from aromatic rhododendron forests and rolling green terraces into a desolate world of bare rock, with snow-dusted mountains on all sides. It’s a fortnight of heavy-duty hiking and high altitudes but it’s full of challenges and rewards. When you set foot on the snowy slopes of Base Camp, you’ll feel quite literally on top of the world.
Amble through the Annapurnas
The Annapurna Range is a particularly beautiful pocket of the world. The foothills are a tangle of thick forests, rippling rivers and traditional teahouses, with vast snowy peaks towering over the horizon. Take a short trek to Poon Hill at sunrise, where you’ll see the sun flood the mountains with colour in the early morning light, or opt for a longer adventure. If you’re ready to go the extra mile, try trekking the entire Annapurna Circuit, a seventeen day trek steeped in gorgeous scenery that is bound to put a spring in your step.
