Arrival in Oudtshoorn
This morning you’ll drive towards Oudtshoorn, noticing the lush scenery give way to a semi-arid desert. Oudtshoorn is a colonial town with wide avenues, and historic buildings. However, it’s main claim to fame is the huge density of ostrich farms, many of which are open to the public. You can see the incubators and the 3.5lb – 5lb eggs! In the afternoon you can drive to the Cango Caves, packed with eerie underground atmosphere.
Oudtshoorn - Walk in the Swartberg
After breakfast this morning, you’ll drive to a mountain hut located in the Swartberg Pass. You’ll then hike through one of the most spectacular mountain passes in the world, with high peaks reaching over 2,000 metres and breathtaking views at every turn. You’ll cross Fynbos (fine bush) landscape, descend into deep gorges and wander through meadows filled with colourful blooms. After nearly 5 hours of walking, you’ll return to the hut for a traditional South African lunch before heading back to Oudtshoorn.
