Arrival in Knysna
Knysna is a spirited little town hugging the shore with a large lagoon at the foothill of two dramatic mountain heads. You can explore the lively waterfront, crammed with boutiques, art galleries, cafes and restaurants. In the evening, live music drifts from the open air bars and, at The Oyster Company, you can feast on oysters straight from the lagoon!
Knysna - Township Tour
Today you’ll learn about the Xhosa culture on an authentic township tour. You’ll be collected from your hotel and taken to the Knysna township, guided by a local resident. You’ll visit a local restaurant, a township pub and drop in at the local school. Finally you’ll head to the home of your guide to learn some Xhosa words and hear the famous “Click Song”. This tour is run by our local South Africa project.
Departure from Knysna
Finally, it’s time to say goodbye to Knysna. As you’ll be travelling by hire car you could take it easy before you head off. Squeeze in one more oyster lunch, take a last walk along the lagoon or head to Holy Trinity Church. Consecrated in 1855 the church is full of history and the pulpit is particularly interesting as it was carved out of a single block of stone known as the “Monster Stone”.
