Arrival in Tafraoute
Today you’ll make your way south across vast plains towards the rugged mountains of the Anti-Atlas. The hills are covered in argan trees, the fruits of which produce argan oil, known for its rich nutrient content and unique method of harvesting through the dung of goats. Although this tradition has been since replaced by women’s cooperatives using machines, you may still see the amusing sight of a tree full of goats on your travels through this area. After about three hours you’ll arrive in the Ameln Valley, a bizarre landscape of towering cliffs, rock formations and a fertile oasis. About 3 miles before Tafraoute, you’ll reach the small village of Oumesnate which is your home for the next few days.
You’ll stay in a traditional Moroccan home. The house has been kept as original and authentic as possible, giving visitors a glimpse into the traditional life of the people of the Ameln Valle, and helping them to see Morocco off the beaten track. The rest of your day is free to explore your lovely surroundings. In the evening you will sit down for a delicious home-cooked meal and really feel part of the family.
Tafraoute - Amelm Valley
After breakfast you’ll go on a guided walk through some of the villages nestled at the foot of the mountains, giving you a taste of the rural life of the people of the Anti-Atlas. Two to three hours later you’ll be back at the guesthouse where you can relax on the roof terrace and admire the views across the valley. You’ll then have the rest of the afternoon free to explore the area on your own. This region is characterised by its bizarrely shaped natural rock formations, balanced at precarious angles. You’ll also find an eclectic array of brightly painted rocks that form a dramatic contrast with the natural landscape.
Departure from Tafraoute
In the morning, it’s time to pack your bags and after one last cup of mint tea on the roof terrace it’s time to say goodbye to the family and continue your Morocco trip to your next destination.
