About Rickshaw Travel

Rickshaw Travel was established in 2007 and is an ABTA / ATOL bonded specialist tour operator. The MD is Haydn Wrath who also runs the round the world flights specialist travel agency, Travel Nation.

What’s in a name?

Rickshaw Travel organises holidays for independent travellers in 15 countries around the world. We have a dedicated website for each country (e.g. www.thailandtravelplan.co.uk or www.vietnamtravelplan.co.uk).

To tie all of these websites together, we wanted an ‘umbrella’ name that would carry the idea of exotic travel and adventure with a personal touch. We had fond memories of our encounters with hardworking and charismatic rickshaw drivers across Asia and in other parts of the world in which we operate, and hit on ‘Rickshaw Travel’ as a great name for our company. We feel that it reflects our respect for local culture, and suggests independent travel with the emphasis on flexibility and choice.

Our style is very different from that of High Street travel outlets or multi-national operators. We keep our costs and prices down by not producing brochures. We work form an office, not a shop. We sell the type of travel which we ourselves enjoy – independent, affordable, and flexible. We aim to offer our customers a way to really discover the spirit of each country and its unique way of life. To do this, we avoid bland international hotels, preferring to add some authenticity into the travel experiences we offer.

We have built, and continue to build, a very enthusiastic team with solid knowledge of, and huge passion for their destinations. Every year, we send more and more travellers to our various countries, already spanning three different continents.

Freedom is elementary to every journey, and we’ll organise as much or as little as you like. This can be anything from an airport transfer and your first couple of nights, to an entire itinerary through a string of wonderful faraway countries. Either way, we are on hand to take the hassle out of the travel experiences you book with us.

Build your own trip

With Rickshaw Travel, you can build your own trip. Every destination has its own specialised website offering a range of travel building blocks that you piece together into an itinerary of your own – just like a jigsaw puzzle (hence the design of our logo).

Behind every destination website there are specialists who travelled extensively in the country, so their advice will be led by their own real experiences. Our emphasis lies on personal travel adventures, so we use locally-owned small, authentic hotels and guesthouses in tune with the flavour of each country as much as we possibly can. Above all, we avoid using big tourist coaches that separate you from your surroundings. Instead, we use local transport such as trains, private cars, flights and – of course – rickshaws!
