Day 2 – Countryside excursion or cycling trip

After a laid-back breakfast in the poolside garden, you’ll be collected by your driver for a tour into the emerald countryside surrounding Ubud. You’ll visit a traditional village to get a glimpse into local life, visit a rural temple and cross into an area with fascinating rice fields that flow down the hillside. At the bottom of the valley, mystical royal tombs lie hidden amongst the cliffs.

Alternatively, if you’re feeling energetic, you can cycle between the bright green rice paddies instead. With this option, you’ll be picked up by private car for the drive into the hills of Kintamani, where you’ll begin pedalling through the remarkably beautiful countryside. You’ll whizz past women carrying fruit offerings, bamboo forests and waving children in the local villages.

Indonesia is undoubtedly a paradise, but even in paradise, there are shadows: Disabilities are often viewed in large parts of Indonesian society as a kind of punishment for the affected families. Consequently, people with physical or mental limitations in Indonesia are often denied the right to integration into society. By visiting the Yayasan Widya Guna Foundation in Ubud, you are making a small contribution to ensuring that physically or mentally challenged children in Bali get a good start in life. Yayasan Widya Guna is a non-profit organization in Ubud and has been a place since 2006 where orphans, physically or mentally challenged, and other needy children are given a chance for as independent a life as possible. The children are taught, treated, provided with food, and lovingly cared for in the foundation’s learning centre. By visiting the Yayasan Widya Guna Foundation, you support the organisation’s work for a morning as a volunteer helper.
